Educational Leadership

The primary mission of the Department of Educational Leadership is the development of individuals for leadership roles at all levels of education and related business/industry enterprises. Its scope includes PK-12 Education Leadership , Higher Education Leadership , and Workforce Education and Development . Our Department offers several programs, many of which involve theoretical constructs and practitioner training for those interested in careers as public or private educational leaders, policy analysis, and teachers in business and industry occupations that require educational and leadership skills or degrees focusing on educational research.

Doctoral Admission Requirements

Students must fulfill graduate college and departmental requirements to complete the admissions process.

Step I. Graduate College Admission Process

  • Completed application and non-refundable application fee ( http://graduatecollege.unlv.edu ).
  • One copy of official transcripts from all institutions attended after high school, including verification of a master's degree in educational administration or an approved equivalent

Step II. Departmental Admissions Requirements

Complete the Graduate College admission requirements and provide the Department of Educational Leadership with the following:

* Indicates material may be submitted via email to mario.martinez@unlv.edu

  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Law School Aptitude Test (LSAT)
  • One copy of transcripts from all institutions
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Professional resume or vita *
  • Evidence of writing ability. *
  • Statement of professional aspirations (please indicate interest in graduate assistantship in statement, if applicable) *

A select number of students will be chosen for interviews after all admissions requirements are met and the faculty review candidate portfolios. Final admission is based on an evaluation of all application materials and the interview.

The deadline for candidates seeking a graduate assistantship is March 1st. Candidates not seeking a graduate assistantship have until March 15th to submit their materials. Candidates filing after March 15th are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on extenuating circumstances.
