Educational Leadership

The primary mission of the Department of Educational Leadership is the development of individuals for leadership roles at all levels of education and related business/industry enterprises. Its scope includes PK-12 Education Leadership , Higher Education Leadership , and Workforce Education and Development . Our Department offers several programs, many of which involve theoretical constructs and practitioner training for those interested in careers as public or private educational leaders, policy analysis, and teachers in business and industry occupations that require educational and leadership skills or degrees focusing on educational research.

Robert S. McCord

MCCORD

Dr. Robert S. McCord serves as both an associate professor in the Department of Educational Administration and a co-director of the UNLV Center for Education Policy Studies . His areas of expertise include school law, federal and state government relations, politics in education, educational accountability, equity is schools, executive compensation, charter schools, and education policy analysis. Prior to assuming a faculty position, he served in the Clark County School District for nearly 30-years in positions of increasing responsibility from teacher to deputy assistant superintendent. He has served as a consultant to school districts throughout the country as well as an expert witness. His service contributions include extensive involvement with professional organizations and a national research lab (WestEd). His research and writing has focused on executive compensation, politics, school law, and facility adequacy.

Center for Education Policy Studies (CEPS)

The CEPS is devoted to the following:

  • Providing leadership in the education community in the form of policy analysis, research, and program evaluation with a focus on K-12 school improvement.
  • Conducting policy issue forums designed to raise public awareness of important issues facing K-12 school improvement.
  • Addressing UNLV institutional goals 3 and 4 dealing with expanded research, scholarly activity, and national recognition (goal 3) and service to the region (goal 4).
