UCEA Center for Academic Leadership
Program Center’s Goals, Purposes and Objectives
The UCEA Center for Academic Leadership, under the auspices of the University Council for Educational Administration, engages in broad-based studies of higher education leadership.
More specifically, the intent of the center is to assist in the development of the following:
- An acquaintance with the basic conceptual literature on administrative leadership and organizational problem solving and an ability to relate it to the higher education setting.
- An increased capability to analyze and understand the organization and structure of colleges and universities.
- An understanding of the major actors and forces shaping the governance/leadership processes in higher education.
- An increased facility in the skills of communication, decision making, evaluation and conflict management.
- An insight into the contemporary issues challenging today’s administrators as well as the problems needing study and research.
How these goals and objectives connect with the work of UCEA:
The UCEA Center for Academic Leadership represents an important bridge between PK-12 educational leadership and higher education administration. The center has a history of sponsoring studies of academic department chairs and school superintendents.
