Educational Leadership

The primary mission of the Department of Educational Leadership is the development of individuals for leadership roles at all levels of education and related business/industry enterprises. Its scope includes PK-12 Education Leadership , Higher Education Leadership , and Workforce Education and Development . Our Department offers several programs, many of which involve theoretical constructs and practitioner training for those interested in careers as public or private educational leaders, policy analysis, and teachers in business and industry occupations that require educational and leadership skills or degrees focusing on educational research.

Projects and Research

Occupational Skill Standards: The Center assists the Nevada Department of Education, Office of Adult, Career and Technical Education (CTE), in facilitating the writing of content standards for Career and Technical education programs throughout the state. Standards for these courses of study are designed to create uniformity and benchmarks for teachers which meet industry needs. CTE Standards are cross walked with academic standards for English, Math and Science. Writing team members include high school and postsecondary educators and business/industry representatives. Skill Standards have been written and approved for most program areas and are anticipated to be completed for all program areas by 2006. Incumbent Worker Training: Under an earmark grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, the Center has provided over 450 employees with customized training to improve their skills on the job and meet the needs of employers.

Training for Educators: The Center has provided professional development to teachers throughout the state titled, Teach Skills for a Lifetime-incorporating employability skills and career education into the curriculum. Teachers walk away with quick ideas for lesson plans, a Workplace Basic Skills book of 12 modules, and strategies to enhance their curriculum.
