The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has developed a specialized train-the-trainer program designed to meet the needs of security professionals in three primary environments: hotels/ resorts/ casinos, large shopping malls, and large entertainment / sports / conference / tourist venues.

Terrorism Awareness: Protecting Soft Targets

Course Information

As a security trainer you will build your knowledge through the following eight modules:

Terrorism Awareness - The definition of terrorism, categories, and types of terrorism, targets, types of threats, and the DHS threat advisory system.

Homeland Security Role - The DHS mission statement, the National Response Plan and strategies developed for domestic and national preparedness.

Weapons of Mass Destruction - The properties, effects, and methods for delivery/dispersal of potential CBRNE agents. Personal protection principles for radiological and explosive incidents.

Improvised Explosive Devices - The basic design of IEDs including VBIED’s, and suicide bombers.

Terrorist Planning Cycle and Suspicious Person Indicators - The terrorist operational planning cycle and suspicious person indicators.

Suspicious Items Indicators and Types of Threats - Common types of threats (bomb threat, found package, etc.) and practical ways to handle these threats.

Incident Scene Management - The strategic goals of incident management, as well as a functional understanding of ICS.

Soft Target Assets and Vulnerabilities - An awareness of the physical structure, building grounds, occupant routines, and physical security systems in soft target properties.

The course will also help you build, strengthen, and polish your own training skills. The course is realistic, written by subject matter experts in your industries. Using our blended learning methodology, combining instructor-led training, scenario enactments, group discussions, and demonstrations, you will learn how to present the entire course or individuals modules to your security personnel. Teaching tips are provided as well as basic adult learning concepts.
